Hi Guys,

Now the weather has picked up recently has it been much busier for you lately?

Have you picked up anymore business?

Also, I have a couple of questions, quite random ones !!, but my mind sometimes plants a seed and I can't rest til I have the answer !!

Question 1 - If someone sells their house how do you go about retaining the business from the new occupier/owner?

Question 2 - I noticed that my window cleaner has increased the lads working for him - think he has about 10 at it now - how do they get paid - do they pay so much to the owner and then take a % of houses done - or does it all go in a pot and get distributed between all employees at the end of the week/month? - I have been itching to ask the owner of who does my house but not seen him for about a month or so now !!

If their is more than 1 window cleaner in the one area then you make sure you chap the door first!! but usually the last owner tells the new owner that he or she had a window cleaner and usually you retain the services of the new owner.

2..More houses done per day more money for employeesor usually have a fixed price per house to pay the employee or give them an area to do every week and take a percentage of the employee...
All depends what size of round you have mark.
Are you looking for a job.?

Cheers for enlightening me Fish4fun!!

No, not looking at taking it up - just something I always wondered to be honest !!

Will be doing a spot of window cleaning though myself this weekend for my wifes Nan who can't get a window cleaner for love nor money in the village she lives - even though there's about 5 or 6 I know of first hand - they don't seem to want the work - she has bay windows and a conservatory so maybe that's why they don't want it, mind you, am surprised though - wouldn't have thought they'd have turned down work in todays climate - never mind though - I'll get my squeegee out and do it myself - I find it quite therapeutic, (when the weather is good that is!!).

When i have a customer move house, they normally leave my card for the new owner. However its rare for the new owner to contact you, as they either have a window cleaner who has been with them for a while, or they just dont get round to it and end up losing your number. As for having a squad of workers , it wouldnt be my cup of tea! Some of those guys will end up taking your customers and going out on there own! I also think personally that it looks a little unprofessional and a lot less personal having a squad of window cleaners running about the place, you dont know who to trust on your property!

YOU do know who is on your property up here jd as you have to be licensed in scotland.
If you have a squad of workers spread them out in different streets and only have 2 working together at each house..

Well thats certainly a better idea fish4fun. Do you find that licences are enforced? Are you asked for proof of this much, either by authorities or by your customers?

I like that idea too, definitely cuts out the cowboys out there I bet.

It is interesting point, I wonder if customers do know about the licensing and ask to be shown proof.

Hi mark,jd a lot of customers dont think you need a licence or knew you need a licence to clean the windows and the authoritys hardly ever check up unless you contact them to check out unlicenced window cleaners in your areas.

Yes and no jd,the police also have the right to ask if you have a window cleaning licence as they have the power to stop you trading also here in scotland
