Hi Smartshine,

Pretty much the same as you to be honest, had a real bad dose of the snow but it was worse when that melted a bit and temperature dropped - we had a strange downpour of extra cold rain that literally froze to black ice so it was absolutely hazardous.

It has all gone now though - we are just experiencing rain at present - I never thought I'd look forward to rain so much in my life !!

Hi all, i am from portsmouth in the south of england having bad weather here which has put me very behind in work, but my company also does maintenance so i can in some cases carry on with something else in the wet weather. does everyone stop when it rains or do you just carry on through and if so what do your customers think when you clean the windows in the rain?

Hi smartshine. Im just getting back to work, as all my gear was frozen solid and broken! January's weather was particularly hard on my system & earnings! At the moment im just window cleaning, although im considering offering a pressure washing service and gutter cleaning, especially when its wet. I work in light rain or showers, my customers know the score and don't bat an eye. I let my customers know from the outset, that i clean in all but the worst weather, in order to maintain a regular and reliable service.

hi jd, i used to do pressure washing but the thing i found with it is it took up too much of my time nd got me behind on window cleaning, i do gutter clearing and cleaning nd fascia nd gutter renewals plus window replacements nd repairs, so i can keep goin doing somehing in the poor weather. i will carry on cleaning windows in light rain but not many customers like it. i do all my work the traditional way purely because where i am most window cleaners do windows with wfp and i ave found there is a big market for guys that can do it by hand, so i just carry on with the ladders. do u have to pay alot out for the running and upkeep of your wfp system?

There isnt a great deal of expense for the upkeep of the system smartshine, just general maintenance really. You need to replace filters & buy Resin every now and then, but as long as you keep on top of it. Its particularly hard working from the ladders in the winter time, i remember it with dread! You would be saving yourself time, money & effort by going wfp mate, not to mention you might live a lot longer to!

hi jd yeah i ave had alot of guys say it will save me time but the market is looking for guys who still do it traditionally and i am stacked out with work for it, so am not looking to going over but if health and safety tighten up more to the extent that ladders will be banned then i will get a system. the only ones i would like t get a system for is the ledlite windows doing them by hand is a killer!!

The people looking for traditional methods only, have most likely not even tried having their glass cleaned by wfp, they have probably heard all the false stories! You say your stacked out with work, but if you were using wfp you would have a weeks work done in 2days. You only need to fall of a ladder once smartshine & thats that! Just think for a minute, you fall from your ladder and break Your pelvis, you take 6 months to recover and get back to work! Do you think your customers will wait on you! Not a chance, in fact they'll probably have someone else doing their windows with wfp! Your just a number to them & your doing yourself no favours mate.....

i have fallen off my ladder many a times fortunatley not hurting myself at all apart from bruises, but its thru my own silly mistake which i have learnt from so havent fallen off now since i started. i hve had guys work for me with the wfp and to be honest i dont really rate the results, the only system that i have been impressed with is straight from ionics but the upkeep of it costs the chap a small fortune t keep going, and i just dont see the need of it. all my guys now just use traditional methods but do risk assessments to keep themselves safe.

Those getting bad results from wfp, are simply not doing it properly. My customers really like it & i never get complaints! A bad tradesman always blames his tools as they say. Its your call mate, but one day you may live to regret it! Good luck to you
